Easter weekend is nearly upon us, and whether the holiday is special to you for reasons of faith, or it’s simply a long weekend to reconnect with loved ones, there are a plethora of fun ways to celebrate in New Westminster! Keep reading for our list of things to do in the area for the holiday weekend!
Easter in Queen’s Park
Queen’s Park is the place to be on Sunday the 21st! From 11am to 2pm, join in with your wonderful family for some egg-citing activities the whole bunch can enjoy! There will be something for everyone – live music, photos with the Easter bunny, arts and crafts, and many more activity stations to keep busy and have fun! You won’t want to miss this holiday event at Queen’s Park.
Brunch at the BoatHouse Restaurant
There’s something about eating brunch on a holiday that gives a fun, celebratory feel. On Sunday the 21st, bring your brood down to the BoatHouse in Port Moody for a to die for brunch. There will be a special menu chock full of all your breakfast favourites, and brunch will be served all day! Don your best Sunday outfit, bring an appetite, and enjoy a beautiful meal on the water with the ones you love, we can’t imagine a nicer way to celebrate the holiday.
Easter with Shaun the Sheep
Another awesome event to spend with family this holiday weekend is “Easter Weekend with Shaun the Sheep!” Join Shaun and his pals for a party with the Wonderland Arts School! There will be entertainment, dancing, photos with the character, food, and of course, an egg hunt! You and your kids will love this magical celebration at Columbia Theatre! Tickets are available for purchase, here.
New West Craft Fair
Though not technically an Easter activity, the New West Craft fair is an awesome Spring activity and great way to spend a Saturday. There will be all sorts of vendors selling their unique products, and you’d be hard pressed to leave without finding a beautiful creation that caught your eye. Wandering around River Market is a great addition to any Saturday, and will elevate the holiday weekend even more. Perhaps you will find the perfect host or hostess gift for your Easter dinner, or a special treat for your family! The New West Craft Fair runs every second Saturday until May 18th.
Have a Picnic Somewhere Around Town
Though we’ve been having many bouts of April showers lately, there is some sunshine on the forecast this Easter weekend! If your family style is more laid back instead of going to big events, that’s okay, every family is unique! We suggest bringing your bunch down to one of the beautiful green spaces New Westminster has to offer for a picnic. You can pack a special Easter themed lunch, or maybe pick up some hot crossed buns from your favourite bakery. If you have young children, you can even do your own egg hunt! We suggest Tipperary Park, Hume Park, Grimston Park, the possibilities are endless. Pick your favourite and enjoy a holiday afternoon with loved ones.
Easter weekend is always a special time during Spring to spend time reconnecting with the ones you love. However you decide to spend the weekend this year, we wish you a safe and happy holiday, New West.
